  • Coming To An End

Well, I have about 2 weeks left of ARISE, and I have a lot of thoughts and feelings on that, but first, let me tell you about what’s been going on here. We have had quite a few speakers come since the last time I wrote. First is a lady named Lea-Anne. She talked about the Pentecostal movement, its origins, and how it relates to Adventism. It was a very interesting class and very information-heavy. I found that with her style of teaching, it was difficult to take notes. I did somehow still take lots of notes, they might just… Read More

  • Not Dead!

Ello Ello! I am alive! Though very tired, busy, and a bit overwhelmed. It’s been quite a long time since I last wrote, so we shall see how much I can remember. Let’s start with one of the reasons I haven’t written in a while. If you are at all into politics, you probably heard about Charile Kirk’s assassination. That affected me a lot. Charlie Kirk was a devout Christian, an amazing thinker, speaker, and someone I admired, someone I had hoped to one day meet. His videos on talking on university campuses had a good impact on my ability… Read More

  • Sunday the 7th

Oki doki, I’ve been busy for quite a while and it’s been a bit since I wrote anything. My goodness, it’s been hectic and exhausting! But enjoyable, so that’s good :)First off, fun Finland things I’ve learned and noticed. The grocery stores I have been to do not really do bulk anything. The biggest bag of flour I have found is 2 kg. Vanilla extract also isn’t really a thing here, they’re using vanilla sugar for the most part. Isn’t that Odd? Vanilla is apparently very expensive here, in all forms. I think I am finally getting the hang of… Read More

  • August 24th

Good evening from Finland! It is 10 PM and I am absolutely exhausted. The first week of classes was absolutely insane! We have Ty Gibson and Justin Lawman as our speakers this week and next. They are both really, really good. I have been enjoying Justin over Ty though. Ty is going through the story of the bible, we are currently at the fall, and while he is an objectively good speaker, I keep getting bored. I think it is because I basically agree with pretty much everything he says. Almost none of it is new information for me. The… Read More

  • Sabbath

I think Sabbath was the most difficult and intense day so far. There was a lot that went on, and it kind of all just piled up. We left for church at 9:15AM and the service went on for 2 hours. The service itself was fine. The praise team did something interesting by singing the song in English and Finnish. They would switch languages every once in a while. I thought that was a very unique way to include everyone. After the service, they had sabbath school, which I did not end up attending. The chairs they have had sides… Read More

  • First Day

It’s been quite the hectic 2 days. Yesterday we had orientation, and today was the first day of class. Yesterday I walked down to the lake, which is beautiful, and watched the sunset (its got nothing on a Saskatchewan sunset, but it’s a beautiful place and I got a few pictures) Today was our first classes, most of which I found bit boring and repetitive, but it was more of an introduction to the program and I expect that to change quite quickly. We did have a fun time going through part of Elijah’s story though. We were talking about… Read More

  • I Have Arrived!

After 30 hours of travel and a stop at a shopping mall for some food, I have made it to ARISE Finland! It is as beautiful here. If you have ever been to Muskoka in Ontario, the terrain here feels very similar. Lots of trees and rocks, and there is a lake just a 5-minute walk away. I was going to visit today, but I think I may take a nap instead. I am so tired. I am staying in a house with 8 other girls. I was the first to be here as I arrived a day early. The… Read More

  • Hello!

Hiya! If you are here, you probably know exactly what is going on and what this is for, but here is a quick rundown anyway. In less than a week, I will be departing for Finland for a few months. I have finally started packing, which is fun, if stressful. I am going to Finland to attend a discipleship program (the discipleship program is meant to teach me how to study the Bible and how to give that knowledge to other people). A friend of mine suggested I keep a blog to both document my experience and allow her to… Read More
